How to Digital Exams

Digital Exams

Canvas is widely used to support a variety of assessment methods, offering flexibility and convenience for both staff and students. When there is a need to conduct an on-site digital exam, Canvas can be used alongside the Respondus LockDown Browser, a specialised tool that enables a lockdown browser environment during exams in our PC lab spaces.

The LockDown Browser can restrict access to applications and unauthorised websites to minimise opportunities for academic misconduct.

To request support for digital exams using Canvas and Respondus, please request it at the time when you are providing the exams team (exams@stir.ac.uk) with your exams data. They will schedule your exam and let us know that you have an exam coming up. We will then liaise with you to provide access to Respondus and guidance on the setup.

Advice and support for digital exams

We are here to discuss any aspect of digital assessment. Some examples of questions we can help answer and discuss with you:

  • Will a digital exam work for my module?
  • What things do I need to be aware of when designing my digital exam?
  • What are the features of Respondus?

We are also happy to speak to departments about Respondus.
