What is Panopto?

Panopto is the University’s main video management tool. It allows you to create, edit, and share recordings, as well as screenshares.

Panopto can be accessed via Canvas and is fully integrated with Single Sign On (SSO), so you do not need a separate user account to access it. To access it, select the ‘Panopto’ link on the left hand navigation in the Canvas module you would like to use it in. You will then navigate to the dedicated Panopto folder for that module. Any recordings you create using the Panopto/Canvas integration will be stored in this folder for this module.

When and why should I use Panopto?

Panopto should be used when you need to:

• create a recording of your screen, i.e. screencast or screen recording to share or embed onto your module pages
• create a short introductory video recording to add to the front page of your module
• create a video recording during an on-campus lecture, i.e. lecture capture, and then publish it to the module’s Panopto folder
• upload an existing recording that you have from another source to ensure that the recording has automatically generated closed captions attached to it so that it is more accessible
• record a meeting from MS Teams and then share it via Panopto
• start broadcasting by setting up a live webcast to transmit live to learners in diverse locations.
