Preparing 2025-26 Canvas Modules
Alongside the introduction of the Canvas Baseline, new and important changes are being made to Canvas modules for the upcoming semester. These changes have been shaped by feedback from students and staff.
What is changing?
Through feedback gathered in staff workshops, student surveys, and analysis of how modules are being accessed and used, especially on mobile devices, it became clear that changes could improve the experience.
As a result, four key changes have been introduced:
Simplified navigation
Revised homepage to simplify navigation using the built-in Canvas navigation through Units. This creates a clearer journey through module content.
Utilising the Canvas Syllabus
The Syllabus combines the practice used within the ‘Learning and Teaching’ and ‘Classes’ pages and makes it simpler to find content for students using mobile devices. It also supports simpler import processes for staff in future semesters.
Clearer Assessment page naming
The page previously titled ‘Assessment and Feedback’ page has been renamed to ‘How you will be Assessed’. This change helps reduce confusion by more clearly reflecting the page’s purpose.
Reference to the AI Assessment Scale
Reference to the AI Assessment Scale directly within assessment information in the same way that has been adopted in FNS in 2024/25.
Guidance and training
We recognise these changes, alongside the introduction of our new Canvas Baseline, will mean adjustments for colleagues preparing their modules for the Autumn semester.
We have a selection of sessions that introduce the Canvas Baseline together with a four-part webinar series (led by Instructure for Stirling staff) to help colleagues learn practical tips, explore features, and get the most out of Canvas for your teaching.
