So, what is Fellowship of Advance HE and why would I want to do it?

The University of Stirling has institutional support available to you to acheive Advance HE Fellowship.

There are four different routes to fellowship depending on your experience.

Benefits of Advance HE Fellowhip include: professional recognition, structured continual professional development, and reflective practice.

Teaching

Fellowship offers recognition from our sector body Advance HE of the knowledge, experience, and values that you demonstrate as an educator in Higher Education (HE). It is aligned to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF), a globally recognised framework which contains all the key aspects of learning and teaching practice that the sector has agreed is important.

Four flavours of Fellowship

Fellowship comes in four flavours, depending on the experience you have gained:

Descriptor 1: Associate Fellow You have experience of effective teaching of HE students within a narrow range of responsibility.
Descriptor 2: Fellow You have sustained experience of teaching of HE students with a broad range of responsibility.
Descriptor 3: Senior Fellow You have sustained experience within your institution of influencing the teaching practice of others who teach HE students and can demonstrate this impact.
Descriptor 4: Principal Fellow You have sustained experience of institutional and sector strategic influence that impacts the teaching practice of others who teach HE students.

The Descriptor that you go for will align to the teaching experience you have gained. If you are interested in Fellowship, why not try this Tool from Advance HE to decide where your experience best aligns.

At the University of Stirling, we offer institutional support to help you to achieve fellowship against Descriptor 1, 2 and 3. There are two routes, one taught and and an experiential route. The taught is a Postgraduate Certificate comprised of three 20-credit Masters module, the first module aligned to Descriptor 1 and the full Postgraduate Certificate to Descriptor 2. The experiential route offers Descriptor 1, 2 and 3 and it includes a series of support workshops, mentoring, writing retreats and feedback on a draft. If you are interested in becoming a Principal Fellow, we can support you to make an individual application directly to Advance HE.
